A minute long breathing practice called the ocean breath. Perhaps it’s tempting to dismiss these type of practices, but I test every thing I recommend and if it doesn’t work, then it won’t be here. I do this practice when I’m driving and stressed. I firmly hold the steering wheel and it helps.

Therapy is about learning to relate differently to ourselves. I believe a huge part of this is extending care and compassion to the part of us that is hurting. Why don’t we learn to comfort ourselves in the form of a hug and swaying gently. With an infant we think it’s obvious, when we think of rocking ourselves gently we think of a person who has lost touch with reality . I challenge that and say why the heck don’t we comfort ourselves this way?
